The front garden 4 The garden immediately in front of the house contains three very fine rowan trees, which produce lovely blossom and berries, and are supposed to ward off witches! Beyond the trees are flower beds and a productive vegetable garden. This shot is taken across the front of the house, looking north towards the far end of the valley, where the river meets the sea. As you can see from this picture, the advantage of living in a crofting community like this is that, although you have neighbours nearby, you are not immediately overlooked and can enjoy a peaceful and secluded lifestyle.
